And it always brings this memory back to me. Dale Earnhardts last win before his death is probably the best representation on the kind of driver he was. Going 17th to 1st in 4 laps. Still gives me goosebumps.

F1 had Senna, NASCAR had Earnhardt

7 Championships > 3 Championships

/Ignore that #3's career was much longer

//Talladega's going to be amazing

///Hopefully Kenseth doesn't kill anyone

And only 2 more weeks till I get to see my first ever Sprint Cup race in person at Texas! And by the looks of things it should be a fireworks show.

yes his career was longer but both are the legends of their series. They both left a hole with their deaths

I'm a die hard Earnhardt fan, even sharing birthdays,

I miss hearing Ned Jarret and Benny Parsons (RIP), their commentary showed excitement for the on-track action, knowledge of the sport, and all-around gentlemanly respect for every driver.

it's amazing to see a race live. I haven't been to one since 2000. I can say though I got to see both SR and JR race together

Yea. Nascar in the late 90's/early 2000's was awesome.

It's amazing how much the series has changed (in a bad way) since Earnhardt's death.

I really don't want to see Petty's and his championship records broken. Especially by Jimmie Johnson...

Thanks for posting this when I think about Dale senior I always remember where I was when he died, I forgot how much I missed the old nascar. Don't get me wrong it's still good racing but to see it after a long time and hear the old announcers sweet very sweet and yes everything is always better live.

Isn't NASCAR racing fantastic?!?!

Here's digging deep into the the 1972 Talledega wayback machine: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid…

My old friend, Larry Shankle, who was the crew chief of James Hylton in 1972 , infamously said, "Cale who?" after their win.

Larry went on to be crew chief for a few other great teams and drivers...and he is still alive and well in Pinehurst, NC.

I hit his house with golf balls every chance I get when I am back in the US.
